Preschool
Cultivating Minds & Hearts
The Mount Vernon Community Preschool started in 1965 as a mission of the United Methodist Church of Mount Vernon to provide early childhood education to local children.
Today, the tradition continues as a non-faith based, not for profit preschool for children in Mount Vernon and the surrounding communities.
The preschool program is located in the education wing of the Methodist Church in Mount Vernon and currently runs Monday/Wednesday/Friday or Tuesday/Thursday, 8:30-11:00, during the school year. Start date, vacations and days off follow the Mount Vernon Community School District calendar. There is no wrap around care or transportation provided.
Children in the preschool program must be at least three years old by September 15 and toilet trained to be enrolled.
The preschool is licensed through DHS, has small student to teacher ratios, and the lead teachers have a college degree in education. The curriculum is play based and focuses on building social, emotional and cognitive development. Children also work on large and small muscle skills through a variety of toys, games and activities.
